First Round Of Outdoor Seeds Have Been Planted!

The first round of outdoor seeds have been planted and I am really struggling with my fear of failure this week. They officially went in the ground on March 22nd, a few days late to my deadline. But the weather was too rainy over the weekend, and March 22nd was a perfect day.

I've reached the deadline for getting these seeds in the ground, and it's now or never. If I wait any longer, and we have a warmer than expected spring, the plants may bolt (for those of you that don't know what bolting is, it means that the plants shoot up and begin to flower, which is pretty, but cuts off the growing of the vegetable and sends all the nutrients in the plant to the flowers).

I've been watching a lot of Gardener's World with famed British Gardener Monty Don, and he has definitely been helping me get over my fear of failure. In the latest episode I watched, Monty Don tries to grow fennel, and the plant bolts and must be completely removed and thrown in the compost heap. Even faced with this failure, Monty Don decides to plant another type of vegetable and move on. There are only so many things we can predict, and the weather is not one of them!

I planted four types of seeds as you'll see in the photos: baby gem lettuce, spinach, arugula, and a salad savour mix. I planted these in rows, and will potentially need to thin these out after they grow for a few weeks. 7-10 days until germination. I'll post an update this week and show you my progress!
