The Tomatoes Have Lived To Fight Another Day

The tomatoes survived all the rain last week, but are a bit ragged at this point. It also involved a lot fo babysitting from me, checking the water level in the meter, the soil moisture level, and supplementing the tomatoes with some tomato food and covering them to prevent them from getting anymore rain.

I feel like they are off to a strong start though thanks to the aerogarden and using the cold frame to harden them up a bit.

GROWTH MINDSET:

Committing to their care was difficult and required getting up pretty early before all of my morning gigs this past week. It was hard, but necessary and helped them stay alive through the tough wet weather.

accepting failure: I accepted the fact that they might die and bought seedlings from a mail order organic company called Organic Harvest just in case. I bought two different kinds, Matt's Wild Cherry and Brandywine, both heirloom tomato seedlings. I feel like this jinxed my seedlings into staying alive though, and the positive side is now I'll have a lot more varieties of tomatoes for the summer months!

creativity: I'm looking forward to trying out all of my favorite tomato recipes with the varieties I've chosen to grow. I've also spent some time at the end of my long work days scouring the NYTimes Cooking app for more tomato recipes to try. Now the hardest part is waiting for the tomatoes to finally be ready in July!
